Xabi Alonso backs the Morgan Rogers Cole Palmer partnership
Intro
Xabi Alonso is excited about the new partnership that is happening between the record signing of player Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer at Chelsea.
The two players grew up playing together at Manchester City football club. Now they are back together and will be playing together at Chelsea after the club paid a record fee and signed Rogers.
Chelsea signed Rogers from Aston Villa for the sum of £117 million. Other clubs were also interested in him, but Chelsea were able to sign him before any other team could sign him.
Alonso Sees a Strong Tactical Connection
Alonso made it clear that he already has a plan for how the two players Rogers and Palmer can play together.
“I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well,” according to Alonso. “We need to have a good mix.
If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions with good control, then we will be more competitive with the ball and against the ball.”

A Statement Signing
Alonso is also very happy with the Rogers deal. “For sure it’s a great signing,” according to him. “In that position we needed an important player and I’m sure there were not many better options than Morgan Rogers.
It means a lot for everyone and for the players that are already here as well, they have a good feeling and we’re looking forward to having him in a few weeks.” Chelsea secured the signing despite interest from Arsenal to get the deal done.
H2htips’ Take
This somehow looks like a smart signing for the squad. Rogers and Cole Palmer already know how they both played from their time back then at Man City. This should help them link up quickly in order to achieve success on the pitch.
It should also take some pressure off Cole Palmer. He has done most of the creative work for the club alone. Now Alonso will be having two strong attacking players where he will be able to build his team around.
Alonso also discussed finding the right “balance”. What this means is that he is still working out his best team shape and flow. We should get a better idea of his plan when pre-season games begin.
